SAN FRANCISCO — Bay Area travelers are finding plenty of new options as of late when it comes to flights for long-haul international travel.
Starting May 4, they’ll have one more.
British Airways will begin non-stop flights between Mineta San Jose International Airport and its hub at London Heathrow, the first ever non-stop flight linking Silicon Valley and the United Kingdom, a destination San Jose airport officials said was requested repeatedly by frequent fliers.
The airline will send its newest airplane type to San Jose, the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, with 8 new First Class seats, 42 seats in Business Class (Club World), 39 seats in its Premium Economy cabin (World Traveller Plus) and 127 seats in Economy (World Traveller).
Airline officials said their new plane and the convenience of San Jose’s airport will appeal to Silicon Valley travelers, particularly those flying for work.
British Airways already flies twice daily to San Francisco International Airport, about 30 minutes north of San Jose. The carrier said it will maintain its schedule there.
