National retailer Target is setting its bulls-eye on opening two stores in San Francisco by 2012, company executives said.
Last week, Target officials held public meetings to gauge input from San Francisco residents about what they wanted the stores to look like. The company is currently considering the struggling Metreon entertainment center South of Market and the vacant Mervyn’s store at the corner of Geary Boulevard and Masonic Avenue as possible locations.
If the stores are approved by the City, they would be the first “big-box” stores to open in San Francisco — where such stores are traditionally shunned in favor of smaller independently-owned outlets.
